Green Team Position – Oakville

 

 The Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie is accepting applications for a Green Team position in Oakville.

 

 Under the direction of the Utility Operations Supervisor, the Green Team crew member will perform the following duties:

 

 1.                 Mowing grass with front-mount, tractor, and push mower;

 

2.                 Grass trimming with gasoline powered trimmer;

 

3.                 Landscaping and grass seeding;

 

4.                 Pruning trees;

 

5.                 Any other duties required.

 

This position requires experience working with and operating tractors, mowers, and power tools.  The successful candidate will be mechanically inclined, physically capable of performing the work, be able to take direction, and work unsupervised.

 

Eligibility: This position is funded through the Manitoba Urban/Hometown Green Team.   Applicants must be between ages 15–29.

 

Hours:             40 hours/week                                                                                                                             

 

Duration:        May 4, 2020 – August 31, 2020 (approximately)

 

Wage:              $16.70 per hour

Term Utility Operations Labourer

 

 The Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie is accepting applications for the position of Term Utility Operations Labourer effective immediately to March 12, 2021 or the return of the incumbent.

 

Under the direction of the Utility Operations Supervisor, the successful candidate will serve the Municipality by assisting with the maintenance and repair of water and sewer infrastructure and equipment. Standby and on-call duties to respond to after-hours emergencies is required.

 

There is also a requirement to operate and maintain equipment and property in Oakville, MB.

 

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

 

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Province of Manitoba driver’s license;
  • Experience in operating light equipment and trucks with ability to learn heavy equipment operation;
  • Basic welding, plumbing, piping and mechanical skills would be an asset;
  • Physically capable of heavy lifting;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills;
  • A working knowledge of applicable Workplace Safety and Health and WHMIS training would be considered an asset.
